Impact

Impact.  The Oxford Dictionary, defines impact:  the action of one object coming forcibly into contact with another object, or the affect or influence of one person, thing or action on another.
Everything living on this planet, has an   impact on someone or something everyday, whether positve or negative.
Thanks to many of us, our planet has been impacted negatively, due to pollution, personal, and environmental. There are other types of pollution  in the western world, other than the initial ones that first come to mind.   Noise, from vehicles, loud construction, not to mention our own music favourites, they all conspire to make a less than tranquil environment.   Let's not forget about light pollution.   Yes, I said light.  Excess light from street lights, vehicles, satellites, and skyscrapers.   Our skyline is so artificially illuminated, we can no longer see the stars and constellations in the night sky.
Pollution is not the only adverse impact we humans have had on our world.  Wars, and conflict, have an immeasurable impact on peace and our feelings of safety and security.  The human race, have been fighting since the beginning of time, when Cain struck his brother with a fatal blow, not only dooming him, but humanity as well, placing us on a collision course of violence, pitting brother against brother.
How about those of us, who are emotionally detached?  Individuals with no empathy, or passion for anyone or anything?  This is running rampant today.  Again, impacting how we see and treat one another.
Qualities, like integrity, compassion, forgiveness, and kindness are harder to find in people, they are being replaced
with indifference, callousness, dishonesty, and hatred.  Definitely,  not an improvement!
Like a magnet, with both positive and negative ends, there are people who have, and do have a positive impact in our world.
Everyday people, go unnoticed, doing good things for strangers, if not for any other reason than they are kind and good.   Not just wealthy philanthropists, who do good deeds for a tax write off or publicity, I mean quiet, anonymous people who don't want or need recognition or a tax break.  They, are the real humanitarians that this world needs.  Random acts of kindness, a pay it forward mentality.
We are ALL capable of this kind of positive impact!  Simple acts of caring, holding a door for someone, giving up a seat for someone else, buying a homeless person lunch, donating food to a food bank, going to a nursing home and visiting elderly patients who are alone.  Believe me, there are a lot!  A simple smile can lift someone's spirit.
Gandhi said, "Be the change in the world, you want to see"!
